Today we’re going to show you an example of modern and affordable kitchen makeovers in Brisbane and just how one of our clients transformed their kitchen in just 5 weeks for $27,000.

Exclusiv Kitchens have a step by step process we follow, which we’ve called “the Exclusiv Makeover Machine” that enables us to deliver completed kitchen makeovers in weeks rather than months.

How Exclusiv Kitchens Used the Exclusiv Kitchen Makeover Machine Process To Completely Transform the Rollo’s Kitchen in 5 Weeks...

Here is what we managed to deliver for the Rollo’s:

  • Gorgeous new modern kitchen with Turino Quantum Quartz 20mm stone
  • Time from design appointment to final install 5 weeks
  • Completed cost of kitchen $27,080

So, let’s dig into the details of how this was all achieved:

Kitchen Style:

  • Polytec- Melamine Classic White Sheen cabinetry with elegant Timberline handles
  • Latest soft-closing hardware
  • Modern stone benchtops with inset sink

Timing:

  • 1 weeks from initial meeting to client’s confirmation of design, deposit paid and cabinet makers final check
  • 3 weeks to manufacture
  • 1 day to install cabinetry, this was done by an install team accredited to Exclusiv Kitchens
  • 7 days for stone installation (template, cut, polish and install)
  • Glass Splashback

Costing:

  • Cabinetry cost $9,590
  • Stone Benchtop $3,950
  • Glass splashback $2,120
  • Appliance Sink Package $430
  • LED strip lighting under cabinets $300
  • Accessories: LeMans corner unit, Hafele bin unit, Hafele spice drawer $1,850
  • Trades (mainly building) $8,840

Step 1: Measuring The Kitchen Area

Every kitchen makeover starts with us visiting our client’s home, measuring their kitchen area and discussing their design ideas. On this occasion, it was our fabulous designer, Stacie that visited the Rollo’s home in Yeronga on the 20th Feb 2017.

Stacie remembers the Rollo’s having the following design ideas (Wish list):

  • Broom cupboard
  • Rubbish bin cupboard
  • Lazy Susan corner cupboards
  • Pantry with inner drawers
  • Spice cabinet
  • More bench space
  • Separate cook top and oven
  • New appliances

Here are some before pictures of the Rollo’s kitchen:

Step 2: The Kitchen Design Process

Having met with the Rollo’s, measured their kitchen space and discussed their makeover ideas it was now time for Stacie to get on with designing the kitchen.

Stacie invited the Rollo’s to our showroom in Gaythorne at 2/440 Samford Road on the 28th Feb 2017.

These are the initial designs that Stacie showed them:

The first design is never final and as expected, the Rollo’s wanted several changes.

This is what the Rollo’s decided to change:

  • The sink location was moved back to the existing location.
  • The Pantry configuration was change from a double door pantry to a split pantry consisting of three bottom drawers and the doors at the top.
  • Finishes and bench top colours were changed and finalised.

Stacie and the Rollo’s worked together to design the perfect kitchen. The Rollo’s continued to visit the showroom and make changes until they were happy with the design.

The Rollo’s were very happy with their final design and price. They were wanting to proceed to the next stage where a contract is typed up and signed by both parties.

Step 3: The Cabinet Maker Process

Once the client has confirmed the design, paid the deposit and is happy to proceed with ordering their new kitchen (by signing the contract), our Cabinet Maker must come to site to complete a check measure.

The check measure ensures that we have the correct details concerning measurements, colours, materials, tradesmen, etc. The cabinet maker will then confirm his details and cross check the order. Once this is complete he will place the order. Note this process is subject to the availability of both the client and cabinet maker.

Our kitchen design software syncs without local manufacturer in Brisbane. So, when the Rollo’s were happy with their final design we placed the order with our manufacturer.

Our manufacturer uses laser technology to cut and assembly the cabinetry and install the hardware (soft close) resulting in a very high quality product.

Step 4: The Kitchen Installation Process

3 weeks later the kitchen was complete and sent onsite. We had organised to remove the existing kitchen the day prior to this to ensure our installer could install that day. He was as planned able to complete the kitchen cabinetry within the day.

Our stone mason was notified of the kitchen progress and came onsite to do his template measure. He was able to return to the Rollo’s in a week to install the final polished stone.

Here are some after pictures of their kitchen makeover:

The Rollo’s were very happy with their final product. This is what they had to say:

We had reviewed so many kitchen plans in magazines and over the internet that we were totally confused with how we could renovate our kitchen which had two doorways, an old stove recess and windows that were below bench height.  Everything was designed for modern homes.

Stacie at the Gaythorne showroom worked with us through numerous designs to fit in our “wish list” within the space available.  There was no pressure for us to rush into a commitment as we made our decision.  Stacie was a pleasure to deal with.  All the installers were professional and we are happy with the standard of their work. We are very happy with the end result and feel we got good value for the budget we had available.

Bob & Sheryl
Rollo

We loved working with the Rollo’s. They’re a lovely couple and we just wanted to publicly thank them for their business.

Well there you have it, a complete kitchen makeover in just a couple of weeks. All thanks to the Exclusiv Makeover Machine process.

There aren’t many kitchen companies in town that can match our time to complete and our price!!

Last week there was a fantastic article posted on Houzz titled Rein In and Splash Out: How to Budget for a Kitchen Renovation.

We liked the article so much that we decided to post some of what we felt were the most important points.

Spend… time on planning and budgeting

  • make a list of things you can’t do without
  • have an emergency fund – just in case
  • do your research and always bargain for discounts

Save… on quantity of units

This was a practical tip suggesting you go through everything in your current kitchen and dispose or sell everything you don’t need – the idea is that you’ll then need less cabinets.

Spend… on piped underfloor heating

  • frees up wall space from heaters and air conditioning
  • underground heating is wonderful in winter when the tiles would usually be cold
  • less expensive than electric heating pads

We have two resources that can help you get a good feel for how much to budget for your kitchen renovation:

Resource 1: Our Kitchen Renovation Pricing Guide

Resource 2: Our Kitchen Renovation Pricing Quiz

Save… on appliances

Not necessarily the quality of each appliance but more likely the amount of them – do you really need everything!

These are the must haves: stovetop and oven, fridge-freezer and dishwasher.

Spend… on benchtops

Simple enough this is because benchtops give an instant wow factor!

Check out our kitchen reno process here.

Save… on splashbacks

You can get a clean, sharp look with sheet metal or low cost tiles!

Spend… on taps and hardware

  • These need to be good quality to withstand years of use
  • Ensuring all the hardware is the same material and colour creates a sharp luxurious look

Save… on sinks

  • Sinks just don’t have a wow factor so why get the most expensive one
  • If you are wanting a ceramic sink look for a bargain on ebay

Spend… on lighting

Since your kitchen is so well used and the centerpiece of most homes it makes sense to spend more on high quality lighting.

Save… on flooring

There are simply better areas to spend your money. High quality slate tiles or poured concrete are great options.

Well that’s it. We hope you enjoyed this summary of another fantastic article on Houzz. Let us know in the comments what you would spend your money on and how you would save your money.

There are a lot of factors that go into the cost of a kitchen renovation. Last week we noticed an article on Houzz, titled Expert Eye: How Much Does a Kitchen Makeover (Really) Cost? and written by Adam Scougall the Director, Designer and Creative Artist at Adam Scougall Interior Design & Decoration, Sydney.

We thought we’d highlight some of the tips mentioned in this article. And we’ll take the opportunity to let our readers know about some of the resources we’ve pulled together to help them figure out how much their kitchen renovation should cost.

How Much Will A Budget Kitchen Renovation Cost?

In the Houzz article, Adam mentions that the range for a budget kitchen makeover is between $10,000 and $25,000. We agree with this range. We have two resources that can help you get a good feel for how much a budget kitchen renovation could cost.

Resource 1: Our Kitchen Renovation Pricing Guide

Resource 2: Our Kitchen Renovation Pricing Quiz

Budget Kitchen Renovation Tips

Adam shares some great tips in his article. We’ve summarised them below:

  1. Make use of Ikea’s cabinets as they come in many different finishes and sizes
  2. A gold tile paint on subway style splash backs can give an illusion of luxury

How Much Will A Mid-Range Kitchen Renovation Cost?

Adam mentions that a mid-range kitchen will cost between $20,000 and $50,000. We feel that $50,000 is getting to the high end in terms of the prices for our kitchen renovations. Perhaps this is because of the higher property values in Sydney.

In our kitchen renovation quiz you have a choice between a small, medium and large kitchen. You’re then prompted for the type of cabinets, hardware, bench tops etc… Even if you choose the most expensive options for a large kitchen the cost is $42,770.

Mid Range Budget Kitchen Renovation Tips

Once again Adam has some excellent pointers for saving money on mid range kitchens:

  1. Use Caesarstone’s Calacatta Nuvo rather than a marble finish
  2. Use Veneer instead of timber
  3. Use marble lookalike tiles

How Much Will A High End Luxury Kitchen Cost?

Adam mentions that high end luxury kitchens can cost between $50,000 and $100,000. Most of our customers fit into the budget and  mid-range categories… so if you want to find out more about luxury kitchens we suggest you check out the article on Houzz.

Today we’re going to show you how one of our clients transformed their kitchen in just 5 weeks.

Our client is a busy family of 5 that have all the usual pressures of modern day life like school, work, sports events, social occasions etc.

Exclusiv Kitchens have a step by step process we follow, which we’ve called “the Exclusiv Makeover Machine” that enables us to deliver completed kitchen renovations in weeks rather than months.

Here is what we managed to deliver for the Bolitho’s:

Step 1: Measuring The Kitchen Area

Every kitchen reno starts with us visiting our client’s home, measuring their kitchen area and discussing their kitchen design ideas. On this occasion, it was our designer, Ed that visited the Bolitho’s home in Cooparoo on the 23rd of March 2015. Ed remembers the Bolitho’s having the following design ideas:

  • White and Black
  • Handleless Design
  • Stone benchtop

Here are some before pictures of the Bolitho’s kitchen:

Step 2: The Kitchen Design Process

Having met with the Bolitho’s, measured their kitchen space and discussed their kitchen design ideas it was now time for Ed to get on with designing the kitchen:

Ed invited the Bolitho’s to our kitchen showroom in Capalaba at 2/6 Dan Street on the 26th March 2015.

This is the initial design that Ed showed them:

This is the Bolitho's initial kitchen design idea by our kitchen designer Ed Hough

The first design is never final and as expected, the Bolitho’s wanted several changes. This is what the Bolitho’s decided to change:

  • The island was important to the Bolitho’s to get right, for the whole family to be able to fit around it. Several changes were made to get this right.
  • We also worked together to get the right balance of black and white cabinetry

The Bolitho’s were very happy with their final design and price.

Our kitchen design software syncs with our local manufacturer in Brisbane. So, when the Bolitho’s were happy with their final design we placed the order with our manufacturer on the 8th April 2015. Our manufacturer uses laser technology to cut and assembly the cabinetry and install the hardware (soft close) resulting in high quality cabinets.

Step 4: The Kitchen Installation Process

3 weeks later their new kitchen was complete and sent onsite. We had organised to remove the existing kitchen the day prior to this to ensure our installer could install that day. As planned he completed the kitchen cabinetry within the day.

Our stone mason was notified of the kitchen progress and came onsite to do his template measure. He was able to return to the Bolitho’s in a week to install the final polished stone.

Here are some after pictures of their modern kitchen renovation:

The Bolitho’s were very happy with their final product. This is what they had to say:

Fantastic company with outstanding customer service! I would recommend Exclusiv Kitchens to anyone. Ed and Toni were friendly, professional, and extremely helpful and went above and beyond to ensure my experience was stress-free and enjoyable. My kitchen looks like something out of a showroom; it is of such high quality and designed so well. Friends and family all comment on my amazing kitchen and want to know which company I used. I couldn’t be happier with the quality and appearance of the kitchen, the incredibly affordable price and the amazing, hard-working and dedicated staff. Thank you so much Exclusiv Kitchens. I will be using you again!

Bolitho

We loved working with the Bolitho’s. They’re a lovely family and we just wanted to publicly thank them for their business.

Well there you have it, a complete modern kitchen renovation in just a couple of weeks. All thanks to the Exclusiv Makeover Machine process.

There aren’t many kitchen companies in Brisbane that can match our time to complete and our price. If you’d like to talk with one of our friendly kitchen designers, please call us on 1300 865 954.

While a big budget certainly helps, money isn’t necessarily the biggest factor in the success of a kitchen renovation. Proper planning and creativity are just as important. Here are 7 kitchen renovation tips from your local Brisbane kitchen experts, Exclusiv Kitchens:

1. Allow Plenty of Time To Plan

Exclusiv Kitchens Bayside designs high quality custom kitchens

Don’t rush it. A kitchen reno is challenging enough without having to deal with tight deadlines. Give yourself plenty of time to plan. Start by focusing on style.

Style is something an interior designer can help with. We have a very helpful interior designer, named Nadine. Give her a ring if you like.

Definitely scour the web and magazines for design ideas. We love houzz.com.au.

We provide a comprehensive pricing guide that will help you estimate an approximate budget for the renovation. Leave some room in your budget for contingencies and things you haven’t considered.

2. Think About the Flow

The kitchen is a hub of activities that need to flow together smoothly.

It’s easy to focus on aesthetics but pay  just as much (or more) attention to functionality. Ask yourself, how easy will to be to work in the new kitchen?

Different components should be arranged properly such that one can move effortlessly from one activity to another.

For example, where are your storage areas in relation to the cooking area and sink? Ensure that you can move from the fridge to the cooking area to the sink to the storage cabinets with ease.

A poorly designed kitchen will be a daily source of irritation and frustration.

3. Include plenty of natural light

Most homeowners tend to neglect natural lighting, focusing mostly on indoor lighting. But having plenty of natural light brightens the kitchen, giving it a joyous and lively feel.

Consider installing sliding or bi-fold doors with lots of glass and minimal frame.

Consider large windows especially over work areas.

Exclusiv Kitchens can help with the entire kitchen renovation process.

4. Stick to one style

Choose a style you like and stick with it. This style will then guide all other aspects including the finishing, painting, lighting and countertop materials.

Style options include modern, traditional and contemporary. Check out this great post: 12 Great Kitchen Styles — Which One’s for You?

You can also base your overall style on a specific colour.

You should decide all this in the planning stage. Look through as many pictures as possible.

5. Layer your indoor lighting

Exclusiv Kitchens Bayside designs high quality custom kitchens

To shine, your kitchen needs multiple lights. With so many surfaces and levels – from the countertops to the floor – you need a range of fixtures for proper overall lighting.

Layering also gives your kitchen a warm feel.

There are so many lighting options to choose from including overhead lights, pendants, under-cabinet lights, mood lights, up lights, down lights and so on.

Try to mix in several styles to keep the design interesting.

6. Think of the Utilities

Kitchens have plenty of utilities – gas, water and electricity.

Do not forget to factor these in when planning your renovation.

Talk to your contractor to determine how they will be affected by the renovation and how to go about handling them. Exclusiv Kitchens can help with all aspects of your renovation including plumbing and electrical.

Look into the permits you might need to make any modifications or simply ask us.

7. Think Low-maintenance

Exclusiv Kitchens Bayside designs high quality custom kitchens
Elegance aside, you need to think of how easy it will be to maintain your new kitchen.

Certain materials may look nice but are difficult to maintain.

So when you are designing your surfaces such as floor and countertop, find materials that last long and are easy to clean.

Exclusiv Kitchens provide laminate and stone!

Do your research during planning, finding out what materials are best for your kitchen and their price ranges. Check out our kitchen renovation pricing guide for more detail.

Small kitchen renovations can pose a great challenge to a designer or home owner. It’s complex when you want to add storage and style into the already small space. The challenge here is how you can balance function with elegance.

The below ideas will give you some tips on how to maximize your small kitchen space while adding some elegance to it.

small kitchen renovation ideas from Exclusiv Kitchens
Small Kitchen Renovation Ideas

1. Natural Light

A well-lit kitchen feels larger than a darkened one. Natural light always produces better hue outcomes compared to fluorescent. Any form of window treatments like shades, curtains and blinds should be kept to a minimum in order to let in more natural light, especially during the day.

2. Bench top Creativity

Details that are carefully designed will always give an outstanding style to your small kitchen. For instance, granite-like laminate bench tops pair particularly well with cabinetry in a classic white and this gives the illusion of space.

3. Open-Shelf Cabinet Storage

Your kitchen storage and display space can be improved by using a run of various cabinets with open shelves. The shelves could offer a convenient place for storing your cookbooks without having to overload the whole kitchen with closed-off cabinets.

4. Colours

The right colour usage can make a kitchen appear larger. Light colours used on walls will reflect light, which other than looking attractive can enhance the feeling of space. Make sure that the colours on the cabinet finishes match those used on walls. Matching floor colours with the walls and cabinets can be helpful.

5. Glass Cabinets

Glass-front cabinets will ensure your small kitchen remains well lit and airy. In case you do not like to have all your dish ware on an open display, you can install frosted glass-front doors to achieve a similar outcome.

In summary, simplicity is a major contributor to space; if you arrange everything in an orderly manner, well maintained and cleaned, the area will definitely appear bigger. Your cooking area will not only look clean but also roomy. Generally, lighting, appliances and storage are significant in achieving a spacious look. Cabinets and bench tops must be deep while your lighting should remain natural. More compact and smaller appliances will also assist in saving space. Whether your kitchen is small or large, you can still achieve a spacious impression-it’s all in your technique.
