Can you explain what determines the cost of a new kitchen?
The main things that influence the cost of the kitchen is what you choose for your front. When I say that, the main materials that are used in the kitchen are either a melamine front, a laminate front, a vinyl front, or a two packĀ front. Now, the two pack being the most expensive. A two pack kitchen is basically a painted kitchen. That’s what influences the fronts of your kitchen.
Then, the hardware that’s used internally to make that kitchen work. In other words, whether you want the full extension soft close drawer, or just an ordinary drawer that doesn’t have any soft close on it at all. That I refer to as the hardware of the kitchen. Then finally, we’re going back to the hardware. Drawers obviously are more expensive than a cabinet, but drawers are far better and far more accessible than a cabinet.
Finally, the top of the kitchen influences the price. A stone top, for example, would probably be 2 to 3 times more expensive than a laminate top. Those really are the 3 essential ingredients that influence the price of your kitchen.

And do you help your customers get the best kitchen they can afford?
Absolutely, yeah. As I say to every customer, no customer has an unlimited budget. You really are weighing up the aesthetics of your kitchen with the functionality of the kitchen. Some people, the aesthetics of the kitchen might be more important to them than the function because they might be thinking of reselling their house. They might be thinking more on the aesthetics, and knowing that they’re not going to be using it, don’t worry too much on the functionality.
Those are the 2 things that really you weigh up one against the other. There are going to be compromises on both departments. You probably won’t be able to have all of the functionality. As an example, and I didn’t mention this previously, but you can electrify all your drawers and cabinets. In other words, they open just with a touch of a finger, but it certainly adds a lot of price onto the cost of the kitchen. A lot of people would make the compromise and not have that, but might go for the soft close. Those are the things that really influence the price of the kitchen.
